Make invisible things not take up space

As mentioned in this forum post. It's quite a nuisance that invisible things take up space, and I can't think of a use case for needing it. There are better ways in MuseScore to handle moving things around than creating invisible objects.
In particular, I run into this a lot with time signatures, but it applies to any object (rests, clefs, etc.).

As I explain in this issue #16902: Suppressing time signature in stave properties does not affect score layout., I disagree.
If you have several staves, and you hide a time signature, you probably don't want it to affect the layout. If you hide a rest, you probably don't want to affect the layout of the notes in the measures. I think this "feature request" needs more discussion in this forum thread : http://musescore.org/en/node/17047
As it is, it will just haunt the issue tracker for ever and will never be implemented.
