For the record, that is the shortcut for the "increase stretch" command. But also, measures do widen automatically as you add notes, lyrics, etc. Or, if you add line breaks to force MuseScore to put fewer measures on a given line. There are also global settings in Style / General / Measure that affect this. So depending on exactly what you are actually trying to do, any of these might be more appropriate than increasing stretch, which is more for occasional overrides to these more basic settings. If you attach the score you are working on and describe the specific reaosn for wanting some given measure or measures to be wider, we can advise you better on the most appropriate way of doing the job.
