Pipe Organ - Instrument Name

• Jul 28, 2012 - 11:26

When I create a Pipe Organ score, it says Man and Ped for the instrument names.

Is this correct?

Using MuseScore 2.0 Nightly Build (1c9447d) - Mac 10.7.4.

They maybe removed, but perhaps it would be better to provide the long name as a default, in accordance with that score (even though it doesn't have a short name, possibly because there's no other instruments)?

Curiously, how would people know it's a pipe organ to be played if there's nothing at the start? Unless you have a stave text, or something?

I would imagine that it is just like piano - most piano sheet music doesn't say "piano" in front of the first staff, either, because presumably you knew it was piano music when you bought it. Might say something about piano on the cover page. Only in music for *ensembles* in which the piano is but one instrument among many would a staff name be needed. And ensemble music including pipe organ is probably less common.

Agreed. No reason for pipe organ to be a special case here. Piano has long and short names that users may need to delete when creating solo piano music if not using a template, why not pipe organ? Although I've elsewhere suggested / supported the idea that the new score wizard be smart enough to clear these names for scores consisting of only a single instrument.
