How to change size / re-position precisely bar numbers ?

• Aug 15, 2012 - 17:32

Hello, I run into a legibility problem :

My bar numbers (on the first staff of each system) are
1) small
2) more annoying, in the way of other elements (see picture).

How can I make them :
- eventually bigger, and
- farther from the staff (higher and/or on the left),

all at once ?

Couldn't find anything useful in the 'edit global style' window.

Thanks for your help !

You need to adjust the offset values for the Measure Number text style (found via Style > Edit Text Style...).

Use negative values for X and Y to nudge the number's position to the left and upward, respectively. You can change the typeface and/or increase the point size in the same manu.

Note, however, that the changes you make will not take effect until you save your score, close it, and re-open it. You may need to try a few different settings for the X and Y positions until you get the numeral to appear just as you want.

Hi there,

disabling and re-enabling the measure / bar numbers also works here. BUT: The size of the measure numbers cannot be changed, since it will be reseted after reopening the file and moreover text above the bars will be in a differnet location. I am not sure, if there already is a bugreport or how to write it, since this forumsystem is very confusing to me.

Bug reports are maintained in the issue Tracker - see link at right of this page. However, issues should only be submitted for problems that are still reproducible in the nightly builds (see Downloads at right) that will eventually become MuseScore 2.0. And handling of measure numbers and other text is much improved.

However, it should be possible to change bar number size in 1.3. As mentioned, the change won't take effect until you reload the score, but it should stick. It's possible there might be some situations where that doesn't work, but chances are, there is some reason and it can be worked around. So if you are having trouble, please post oost the score and the exact steps you are following.

... Marc. I appreciate your fast reply and help on this topic. To the nightly builts: I've never tested such a version, because it says that you should use it with much care and saved files perhabs cannot be opened in future versions of MuseScore. But I think your intention is that I should test this version, just to see if the "bug" is fixed so I will do this. (=

One thing to the bar number-size-thing again: I found out that it will change, if I set the size even bigger as I want it to. So let's say I want it size 12, I change it, disable and enable bar numbers and effect is right. But when I reload it is the old size (or just smaller than configured) again. But²: If I set the size to maybe 18, it will be at around 12 or something like this after reloading. All in the actual stable MuseScore release. So it looks like it is always something below the configured setting.

I will test the nightly built and will look forword to use the issue tracker, when needed. Thanks again for your help!

Yes, I don't recommend actually *using* the nightly builds. But if you are going to submit an issue to the tracker, you do need to confirm that the issue exists in the nightly before submitting. One nice thing, btw, about the nightly version - you can use Help / Report a Bug to do just that, and it automatically brings up the issue tracker pre-loaded with some relevant data.

As forthe specific issue with size - again, it's more helpful if you include the actual score and *specific* steps to reproduce, because as I said, it works normally, so it has to be something special about your particular score or some particular step you are doing incorrectly. Well, one thing to note - *all* text sizes in MuseScore scale with the music. So if you have set a smaller than default staff space size in Layout / Page Settings, then the physical size of the measure numebrs when printed will be smaller than the point size you selected - just as it is for all other text. Not sure if that's what you mean or not.

... thanks for your help again and sorry that I did not attach a score. I will check up your points to see if it's really just me, who is doing something wrong. I will use the issue tracker AND attach a score with the points to reproduce a bug.

I really appreciate your kind and fast help! (=
