MainStage and MuseScore

• Aug 27, 2012 - 11:51

Has anyone managed to get MuseScore to send its output to Apple's MainStage using Jack MIDI and/or OS X's IAC driver?

I've been trying and have got nowhere. MainStage doesn't seem to want to play with Jack OS X MIDI. It does see the IAC driver, as you would expect. MuseScore 1.2 recognises the IAC driver for input but only offers Jack MIDI for output. Jack uses the terms 'system_midi' and seems to align with the number of IAC drivers created, but doesn't list MuseScore in its own right, so I suspect there is a disconnect between MuseScore 1.2 and Jack 0.89.

MuseScore doesn't have a MIDI out so you need Jack for this. The complete chain should be something like

MuseScore -> Jack MIDI -> IAC -> MainStage

Yes, that is what I was attempting. Even trying to send MuseScore through Jack MIDI to MidiLoupe doesn't work; I cannot see any output from MuseScore. I don't know how to see how far the messages get so I am not sure what is broken. Of course the terminology of the different programs doesn't help, but that is life.

I think the problem is in the Jack router. Having switched debug logging on in Jack there are a string of error messages in the ASL log. I won't detail them here but I'll dig around and see if I can find out if there is any reason.
