Violino concertante vs violino ripieno
I'm transcribing Bach's Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern, BWV 1. There are instruments called Violino concertante and violino ripieno. What are they? Is Violino concertante a single violin and violino ripieno a group of violins?

I think violino ripieno is actually multiple violins. Violino concertante is like the term they used back then for a solo violin.

Which is exactly what the OP suspected and my reply resp. WikiPedia seemed to confirm
