Bracket change not saved

• Mar 10, 2017 - 14:09

I have trouble to change brackets as being described here https://musescore.org/en/handbook/bracket

As an example, I create a new partition based on template "Classical Orchestra".

This partition contains several instruments being logically grouped by various brackets. For example, the first bracket spans "Flutes, Oboes, .. , Bassoons".

Suppose I'm unhappy within grouping and I want to replace this bracket spanning four instruments with two brackets spanning two instruments each.

As described in the documentation above, I can edit the bracket and let it just span two instruments.

This works, however, when I then save my changes, the bracket spans again four instruments.

What am I doing wrong?

I wasn't saying you were doing it wrong, I think MS should save it correctly even though you didn't deselect the bracket.

I just tested and it did the same thing while I was entering System Text (not save it).

I think this is probably a limitation that would be applied to anything being edited. Aong other things it does also is not allow you to undo in the middle of editing, so MS doesn't recognize the edit as complete until focus if off of the edit (by pressing escape or clicking somewhere else). I think the save command should automatically abort the edit where it is (retaining it) and save what was done until then. This is what happens in most programs I've used with items that can be edited.

If I understand correctly, it's not actually about whether the element is selected or not; it's about whether it is still in "Edit mode" or not. it's a known issue that until you exit Edit mode, changes are not committed and hence won't be saved. See #135716: Text Changes not saved if in text edit mode whilst saving. I am guessing you are seeing the same thing applied to other element types. Although for the record, I cannot reproduce this, maybe it has something to do with your particular score or your particular bracket type or how you are doing the edit. A sample score and precise steps to reproduce the problem would be helpful in investigating further.

And yes, I agree the solution is probably for Save to automatically end Edit mode.
