printing problem in Unbuntu 12.04

• Sep 24, 2012 - 20:01

I have recently switched operating systems to Ubuntu 12.04. I have no problems with my printing in any other program, but in Musescore every time I print I get an additional title printed, upside down, next to the original title. I am also at a loss to find the menu button for printer preferences. The default is to print to file rather than to use the printer. Thanks! Frank Southecorvo

I don't know anything about Ubuntu, but I can say if you do File->Print, you should get a pretty standard-looking print dialog that allows you to select which printer and also has a properties button for the selected printer. At least, that's how it works on other systems.

The OP is correct. I can reproduce this behavior on my Ubuntu 12.04 system. When I print this file to my Brother 5370 laser I indeed get a mirror image of the title printed right next to the correct title at the top of the page. For me, the file prints correctly to PDF though, so a reasonable workaround might be to print the file to PDF and then send that file to the printer. I wonder if the problem lies in printing this particular font.

I can confirm this bug. In fact, I've been having this problem (title printing duplicated and upside down) since Ubuntu Lucid, and it persists on Precise, which I use now. The work-around is making a pdf version of the work and printing from that one. But it is kind of inconvenient.
I've used MuseScore on other Linux distributions (for example, Arch) and they do not have this printing issue. Seems like an Ubuntu-specific bug to me.
I'm attaching a scan of a print out of the upper section of Frank's file so you can see the title issue. I'll file a bug report on Launchpad too.

Also, I'd like to point out that this happens with any font, not just the Jazz font. I've tried to use other fonts but the problem persists.

I have had the same experience since moving from Ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04. I have used the same work around as others by saving the document as a PDF and printing from there. Since this what I always do when I have a finished product it hasn't been too much of an issue. However, when I just want to print a working copy while working on a piece is when it becomes annoying.

It appears to me that the error occurs somehow with the definition of the "Title" text field itself. My work around is to delete the Title field after it has been initally created and then adding a "Sub Ttitle". I then alter the "Sub Ttitle" to look like the "Title" field did. When printing this directly from Musescore I don't have this "Mirroring" problem. That is why I think it has something to do specifically with the "Title" field itself. I have had no other problems with other text fields.
