The correct instruments aren't selected when playing the sheet

• Oct 18, 2012 - 07:53

I'm using MuseScore 1.2, Ubuntu 12.04.

When I configure MuseScore to use its own synthesizer, everything works fine.

But when I configure it to "Use JACK MIDI", all instruments (e.g., chello, flute, whatever) sound like a piano (or some other instrument that was last active on the MIDI port). It seems that MuseScore doesn't send the ME_PROGRAM event to the MIDI port to set the instrument.

Is it a bug?

Or do I have to turn on some switch in the program?

(BTW, I can't make MuseScore use its own synthesizer because I'm using a slow computer and the music gets corrupted because the CPU's utilization is over 100%. That's why I *have* to use MIDI output. I know that on the JACK side everything is configured correctly (I have no problem playing MIDI files outside of MuseScore).)

You should be able to use the internal synth even with a small computer. Try it again and change the reverb settings in Display -> Synthesizer.

You've made my day!

The reverb was actually set to zero (that is, the 'reverbGain' slider was fully down). When I changed it (to anything), the problem has suddenly gone: the CPU utilization went down. At first I thought it was set to some garbage value the GUI couldn't reflect, but when I move it back to zero the problem returns. Very strange.

Whatever, my problem is solved now. Thanks.

(I still wouldn't mind getting an answer to my original question, about wrong instruments when using JACK MIDI.)
