Lyrics Spell checker

• Nov 10, 2012 - 21:12

It would be extremely helpful to have a spell checker and hyphenation checker for all the text (title, subtitle, composer, etc., but especially the lyrics). I manually proofread my scores, but sometimes simple errors go unnoticed. I realize that this feature may be difficult considering how many languages one can write lyrics in. But perhaps starting with the majors ones would be a good start (English, Italian, French, German, Latin, etc.).

Thank you.

I have little experience on that, but I assume libraries exist for spell checking, which could be included in MuseScore.

Composer and lyricist names would probably challenge any spell checker, but I see how lyrics spell checking could be useful (although usually not for me, as most texts I meet are in old, Renaissance, orthographies, but I understand this to be a niche).

I think the problem would be to convince a spell checker to check words across syllable markers ("Fra-tel-li d'I-ta-lia...").

Now, you quote Latin: this would be really useful. I mean: you may need it rarely, but when you need it, you need it badly. Do spell checkers for Latin exist at all? For Medieval Latin ("sompnium")? For church Latin ("condicio")? ...

Thanks,

M.

Sounds as though someone should write a plugin?

I don't see the need for it in the main program, but having a spell checker plugin would be awesome :)
