BUG: PDF in Mac Os too big

• Apr 28, 2017 - 16:20

The exported PDF-files (Mac Os) are fare too big! About 8 times as big as the original MuseScore file. Phenomenon for Windows and Linux not known. PDFs should be much smaller. In Linux they are only 1,5 times bigger.

Export to PDF *is* an important function to be sure, but it *does* work. It just happens that the libraries we depend on to do this are not as efficient as they could on Mac. Apparently future versions of these libraries will be better, so future versions of MuseScore will be better as well. If you absolutely need smaller PDF's, you could try uploading your score to musescore.com and downloading the PDF that gets generated there (on Linux, I believe). Perhaps also there exist utilities that can optimize an existing PDF and retroactively embed fonts, although I could easily understand if this were not really possible.

Thank you, Marc. Uploading the files on musescore.com and downloading them again works fine. Not really comfortable, but effective! Alternative: everybody has MuseScore on his computer, so PDFs wouldn't be really necessary anymore.

PS: Thank you for writing: "Mastering MuseScore". My daily bread.
