Shift+right should do, and does for me. But Shift+right on a line that spans to the next system already does not, you need to edit the last segment of the line to extend it
Not sure, what happened into your score. The (or one ;) normal way is insert to insert the 8va line (or pedal mark), double click on this element and using shift+arrow right. in this way it shouldn't reach the edge of the page.
If this doesn't work for you, maybe you should try a "revert to factory settings": https://musescore.org/en/handbook/revert-factory-settings
Alternative is to select the range over which the line should be applied and then double click the line in the pallette to have it added over that span.
Problem solved by rebooting the program and starting over. Thanks for all your help!
