Can't enter notes with master control keyboard

• Jan 16, 2013 - 13:32

Hello, I have a Yamaha P80, an ESI RomI/O usb, a macbook with 10.5.8 and musescore 1.1. I can't seem to enter notes with the midi keyboard....struggling...tried all possible settings, nothing. I used to have Jack open but I read it does not work with it, so I shut it down, change the settings and retry....nothing again. Does anyone know of a standard step-by-step setting?
Thanks in advance

Check out the many conversations on the subject, you will find some answers (the most disconcerting: Invert the wires).

Considers that it is not just the maximum fill a score with midi keyboard, do some experiments as soon as possible, but easier to do by MuseScore.

Thank you Schoichi for your reply. I'm a seasoned notational software users and I know where to place midi cables. I'll give it a try with the computer keyboard although I personally feel more confortable to enter notes on a step-by-step method with a real keyboard. I'm starting to read your links but I haven't found a solution. Btw, does Jack work with musescore 1.1 or I need to switch to coreaudio? Reading from the forum it does not seems clear, at least to me.
Thanks

Hi there,

I'm no expert on Mac MIDI - used Linux and PCs all my working life:)

There are one or two checks you can make to see what might be wrong.

First of all - does your MIDI rig work with other software?

If not, the first step will be to install MIDI monitoring software to see whether MIDI messages are coming through to your Mac at all - I could name you half a dozen or so of these on PC, but the only one I know about for Mac is the one that comes with Logic - you may be able to download a demo version to try this out - failing that it will be a question of doing a Google search to see what's available for Mac.

Let me know the outcome of that, and maybe we can take it further.

PS the P80 is a fine keyboard - I have the next version - the P90, which I bought after hearing a colleagues P80 :) Oh and it might be worth contacting Yamaha support.

Thanks ChurchOrganist for your reply, midi works fine I have Reaper, Ardour and GarageBand all working properly and that's why I'm going nuts...shoudn't be a big issue. I'm new to Musescore but not new to music making... :-) I checked Yamaha manual and it pretty straightforward....we'll se...keep you posted if a solve the problem.
