partial measures.

Transcribing an aria from Mozart's Magic Flute, Der Vogelfanger.
It is in 2 / 4, and has many quaver and semi quavers throughout.

The intro starts with a partial measure, (bar 1 in attached score) on the score sheet indicated with the semiquavers.
Following the examples in the Musescore handbook, it will only allow me to shorten the actual measure to 1 / 4, leaving a quaver rest at the beginning.

At the end of the intro, (bar 7 in attached score), it should end with 3 quavers, with the following measure, (bar 8) continuing on introducing the vocal, identical with bar 1, with both joined, being almost a single measure split at the 3/4 mark.
Musescore will again only allow me to shorten the actual measure to 1 / 4, leaving no room for the final quaver in the measure.

What I am trying to achieve is measures of .5 / 4 and 1.5 / 4, or a work a round if such a thing is possible.

Sometimes I am slow on the uptake, and the most obvious solution is the hardest to find.

(this is an edited score with the second number in parenthesis being the actual measure number on the score)

For those "pickup" measures, just set the "actual" duration (under Measure Properties) to 1/8 or 3/8, whatever you need. Use the up/down arrows beside the "actual" numbers on the properties window to adjust the values.
