Is it possible to transpose only half of a piece?

• Jun 28, 2017 - 16:44

I wanted to add a key change in the middle of my song, but if I select a new key the notes don't change, as Finale 2005 would do. I don't want to transpose the whole piece or only one bar (all the different ways I found out I could select). Is there a way I can select only a portion of the piece and transpose it?

Click in the first bar of the selection to select it.
Scroll to the end of the section.
Shift click in that bar.
The section should now be selected for you to manipulate.

For selecting potions of a score, see:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/selection-modes
especially this section:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/selection-modes#range-select

Once you have the selection highlighted, you transpose by key/interval:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/transposition

When transposing, MuseScore adds the new key signature. You do not have to select a new key signature from the palette.

(As you have already stated: ...if I select a new key the notes don't change.
True, it's actually the notes' pitches which don't change - in fact, notes may get re-written with accidentals to honor the new key signature. That's why you don't transpose by simply dropping a new key signature from the palette onto a part of the score.)

Regards, and welcome aboard.
