Dynamics won't format because of lots of low notes

• Jul 14, 2017 - 08:19

Hi. I'm needing to put in dynamics to a trombone part that has many low notes. When I put the dynamics in, instead of them being tied to the stave above, i.e. the note and bar I'm wanting them, they get tied to the stave below. When I'm trying to format it, the dynamics then get moved around all over the score seemingly at random.

Any idea of how to sort this?

Here's the link

Thanks

isn't trombone notated in bass clef?
How do you enter and move the Dynamics? By mouse drag?
Don't, apply by selecting the note and double click the dynamic in the Palette, move by selecting the dynamic and using the offsets in Inspector, or change their default offsets in text styles

Which specific dynamic(s) at what specific measure(s)?
Try setting vertical offset of dynamics using the Inspector. (You can also use staff spacers from the Breaks and Spacers palette to increase staff distance for a few of the staves).

Regards.

When putting any dynamic like p of f it links itself to the top line of the stave. With the notes being so low, as the letter/dynamic is placed it links itself to the stave below, when I still want it linked to the stave above.

As for Trombone bass clef, for an orchestra that is usually the norm, however, the guy playing this stuff is from a brass band background and almost all the notation for that is in treble clef - totally daft, no idea why.

As this guy has a concert this coming Sunday, it's easier for me to transpose it into treble clef for him.

I've solved it for now, as I've transposed all the low bars up an octave. They were far too low to get on a standard tenor trombone without a trigger, more suited to a bass trombone if you ask me.

Thanks for you help.

That's because in brass band, the parts are indeed supposed to be transposed up and octave plus a major second. No need to set all that up manually. Just choose the "Trombone (Treble Clef)" instrument instead of the stand one. It does everything for you automatically. You can then enter the notes at concert pitch in bass clef but they will automatically be transposed correctly when you turn concert pitch off.

Also as mentioned, it is true that if you attempt to move dynamics around by dragging, MuseScore will sometimes guess the wrong location. It is best to rely as little as possible on dragging. Virtually everything you can do in MuseScore is better accompilshed by double clicking and/or using the keyboard. So, to add a dynamic, click the note then double click the dynamic in the palette. To fine tune its position simply use the cursor keys.
