GRACE NOTES

• Dec 11, 2013 - 13:53

Dear people,
There are so many questions and answers about creating (adding) Grace Notes that I really can not come out and ultimately what is or is not anything to understand as possible.
Can someone tell my or Nighty version "cfbf66f" making Grace notes possible and that can be? Similarly PLAYED with the right pitch and time
If that's not possible ..... is there to work or is pushed into the background, and that possibility will be included once in the course of time.

Sincerely
Fred Paul Vogel

Could you maybe ask one of those more specific questions you have? Grace notes can be created in the current version as well as in nightly builds. Have you read the Handbook section Grace note ? Some of these grace notes happen to also play back properly, although some don't - depends on which version and what type of grace note. If you're having trouble creating creating notes, more information would help - post a sample score, describe what you tried to do, what you expected to happen, what happened instead.

Best Marc,
Thank you for your reply and the instructions to keep to me .. Grace notes especially on the Manual
I understand that I began by first looking at what kind of instructions and tips all there were about Grace notes. On the forum at the wrong end There by I became completely confused and understood at the time the instruction verschillenede not.
Using the manual I now manages to make some. Grace notes However, they sound a bit unnatural, but that probably has to do with the time that I have chosen and which may not completely match the duration of the note where he belongs ..
From your answer I understood that everything Grace notes are not yet working properly so I assume that this will be changed in the course of time.
Thank you again for your answer
Greetings
Fred Paul Vogel.

Actually, if you are using a nightly build, pretty much everything should be working, including playback. Be sure you use the correct type of grace note - the kind with the slash (acciaccatura) is meant to be played very quickly, the kind without the slash (appoggiatura) should take half the value of the note that follows. Both of these seem to play back correctly.

So again, if you have specific cases where you think things are not working correctly in a nightly build, you should post your score and describe exactly step by step what you are trying to do, what you expect to see happen, and what happens instead.

See this regarding playback of elements.

I thought about this recently and it could be a little controversial, but if it's not invasive, I propose at least some improved (?) playback for grace notes. It could perhaps serve better until this (#13811: Select playback method of Grace Notes, Arpeggio & Glissando and Articulations & Ornaments) is maybe implemented.

I hope it's correct information?:

16th and 32nd grace notes would be played before the beat.
Acciaccatura would be played on the beat.
Appoggiatura would be played on the beat, taking half the value of the normal note (see bars 2 and 6 of 'Aria' from 'Goldberg Variations').

Not sure about crotchet grace note?

Please find a WAV and mscz (produced in 1.3 - the oblique stroke appears in 2.0) in the attachments.
