OS X 10.9.1 Can't enter notes with MIDI keyboard.

• Dec 22, 2013 - 19:59

OS X 10.9.1
MuseScore 1.3 R5702
Technic P30 Keyboard
Turtle Beach USB MIDI 1x1

Just installed MuseScore. Created New Project. Note Entry works with mouse or ASCII keyboard, but no response to Midi Note Entry. The PortMidi Interface chooser widget is empty

This setup works flawlessly in Logic Pro on the same machine so I'm sure there's no problem with cable connections, keyboard function, or system configuration.

On Windows systems at least, you have to connect and power up the keyboard *before* starting MuseScore. Might be the same on Mac. But do note there are some major known issues with 1.3 on Mavericks; if you start experiencing a lot of crashes, you might look into installing an older version. 1.2 supposedly works better.

Since posting the above, I now am able to see Turtle Beach interface in the Preferences IO dialog. The trick seemed to be saving the project for the first time. Now I can enter a few note with midi keyboard, but it's behaving so flaky as to be unusable. If I completely restart MuseScore, I can click the 'N' button and start playing in notes but as soon as I try to edit a mistake the midi input stops working and the only way to get it back is to save the file, quit Musescore and restart it. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Do you understand how to enter and edit notes the normal way - that is, using computer keyboard or mouse entry? Sorry if that's a dumb question, but it's hard to know if the difficulties you are experiencing are just general unfamiliarity with how MuseScore works or if this another Mavericks-only issue or what.
