It's Christmas and I wanted to load a Pachelbel Canon midi, but it crashed on import

• Dec 23, 2013 - 01:37

I loaded a midi at this url:

http://www.ray.hutchings.dial.pipex.com/pachelbel/cannon_d.mid

and on import, it causes MuseScore to crash. I'm using Windows 7 x64 Professional and MuseScore 1.3 Rev 5702.

It crashes hard shutting down MuseScore completely. Any ideas or things I might do to aid troubleshooting?

Thanks,
scprotz

I can reproduce the crash (same OS & MuseScore version). But I also have a development / prerelease build of 2.0 installed, and it loads the file no problem. So whatever the issue is, it's been fixed already. Feel free to downlaod a nightly build for yourself (see Download link in menu at right of this page).

FWIW, it doesn't look particularly good loaded into MuseScore - like many MIDI files you might find online, it seems to be more geared for performance than for notation.

While I also experience the crash in MuseScore 1.3, Windows XP sp3; I was able to open the midi in a nightly - Revision: c9a9817

Please see:
http://musescore.org/en/handbook/comparison-stable-prerelease-and-night…
for info.

Also, recently the nightlies appear to be less and less prone to crashes:

Nightlies can be downloaded here:
http://musescore.org/en/download
(look towards the bottom of the page.)

Be advised that development of 1.3 has ceased. Judging from the nightlies, the next release of MuseScore will have much better midi support.
That's not to say support for problems/questions with 1.3 has ceased - these forums are always active.

Should you decide to try a nightly, more info. and bug reports can be found in the forum titled 'Technology Preview'.

Regards.
