My first impressions about MuseScore 3.0

• Sep 7, 2017 - 09:06

I did not get to deep testing yet, but here's my first impressions about the new features. First, the theme. I like 2.1's theme better, but that's always a matter of personal taste. What I really like, is the regrouping and decluttering of the menus. It is much more sensible now! I also like the idea of the palette buttons for more options. It makes the software much more accessible for first time users. I just have a suggestion regarding that: when I first saw the three question marks, I wondered what they do and clicked them to see. It would maybe be clearer to use a plus sign "+" or the word "More...". All in all, however, I am very excited for what 3.0 will bring. Well done to the developers.

Another thing I really appreciate in 3.0, is the ability to change a language without having to close and restart the program. It sure simplify the process of testing a translation. Thanks for that! I have another question too. Did you change the rules for slur positioning from 2.1 to 3.0? My carefully positioned slurs in one score I created in 2.1 and subsequently opened in 3.0 was moved to weird places. I just want to know if that is normal / should happen or if it is a bug. I attach screenshots as well as the score to explain.

Just want to say that I appreciate your comments (and the exclamation point!) on the menus—I mostly worked on that, and I'm glad to hear that it came out well.
