Did you consult the handbook? See drum notation
I had the same problem at first, but if you open the palette for drums(Schlagzeug) , you see which staffs you can use and you HAVE TO select one of these. Afterwards you can write that sort of beat and ONLY that sort. Good Luck, Ulla
