Tempo indication

• Sep 21, 2017 - 18:04

I'm trying to add Allegretto to a score but I can't figure it out. The palettes 'tempo' menu only give BPM as an option. When I try to use the 'text' part of the menu, none of the options do anything (I've tried drag/drop and selecting a note and clicking one of them). All of the help videos I saw refer to the 'create' menu which I've read has been discontinued. What am I missing? Thanks!

Take any of the existing tempo text and apply to score, then double click it and replace the text with Allegretto, then in Inspector until Follow text and set the desired BPM

There has been much discussion about allowing text tempo indications, but tempos are very subjective especially in different time signatures such as 4/4, 2/2, 6/8 etc. There is also a difference when it comes to different musical eras. It is generally agreed that allegro (and most of the others) for J.S. Bach is not the same tempo as for Aaron Copeland with other variations in between. There may be someone working on coming up with a scheme that will often work, but there is no absolute rule concerning which tempo text should be played at a particular tempo.

There is a feature request still active for meaningful tempo text. see #82466: Add back textual tempo texts
