PPA outdated

• Nov 15, 2017 - 05:40

Hello, im using musescore on debian and realized i dont have the lastest version, im currently using 2.0.3, so i added the ppa to my repositories thinking the debian repositories where outdated and realized the lastest version on the stable releases was 2.0.3. Is there any reason for this or someone forgot to upload 2.1?? I know i can use the appimage but installing in the software manager integrates better with the system.

PD: i think i configured the ppa the right way on debian because i tried it on ubuntu and got the same result.

Hi, (new) Debian (co-)maintainer of MuseScore here.

MuseScore 2.1 is available in unstable, testing and stable-backports, so you should be able to get that, unless you’re still running wheezy or jessie.
If you’re running jessie, I believe we’ll be able to bring 2.1 to jessie-backports-sloppy if you, for some reason, cannot upgrade to stretch (stable).
Please indicate the Debian version you’re using.

In general, Debian users should NOT use the *buntu PPAs.
I became comaintainer in order to ensure that the new MuseScore releases
will be available to Debian users quickly.

Hi, i moved to linux mint today because i got into issues while trying to install network drive and then completely crashed the system while trying to install musescore trough flatpack... im not really a tech person so linux mint its easier for me. Also i dont want to enable unstable updates because of fear it might break the system or something.
Can i just add the unstable ppa in mint and keep the rest of the packages on stable?? The unstable packages of musescore are for daily use? i want to keep the system settings as safe as possible. Why is it that in windows the default version is 2.1 and in linux isnt?
Thanks for your response!

PD: this is the repository for unstable builds? https://launchpad.net/~mscore-ubuntu/+archive/ubuntu/mscore-nightly/+pa… is the only one i could find with the 2.1 version.

JFYI (probably won’t affect you personally any more, but in case others see it), the https://launchpad.net/~mscore-ubuntu/+archive/ubuntu/mscore-stable PPA has 2.1 for trusty and xenial now.

All later versions either already ship 2.1 or are desupported in a way that it’s not possible to build packages into a PPA for them any more, so that solves the *buntu problem.

I’ll tackle wheezy next, but first I have bugfixes to do.
