turn voice off temporarily

• Nov 25, 2017 - 16:23

I have made a voice plus piano score that
I am trying to learn to sing better.
For playing. I would like to turn voice off for a pass,
then turn it on again for another pass.
I don't know how.

It depends on, what the OP means with "I have made a voice plus piano score" - voice as instrument or voice in the usage of MuseScore, in the first case it's possible, in the second case it isn't. Not each user is aware about the difference of the terminology inside MuseScore.

I have made a voice plus piano score...
OK... so you probably show 2 instruments in the mixer (keyboard shortcut is F10): piano + voice. Leave the mixer open.

For playing. I would like to turn voice off for a pass, then turn it on again for another pass.
OK... so click on the loop playback (which is located to the right of the play button on the toolbar) and then start playback.

OK... now this is pretty neat:
While the song is playing the loop......you tick/untick the 'Mute' button for the voice (in the Mixer). You can do this at each pass of the loop, or anywhere else as the song continuously loops.

See:

Regards.

This is an old post but I'd like to put my nickel on it:
I use the mixer to control the melody line playback (mute/unmute)
At the same time I use GoldWave Audio editor to record the whole thing with
live and muted sections.
Then I save the Goldwave file as an mp3 and use that for singing practice.
I used this technique with a rendition of ANGIE (Rolling Stones) The 3rd repeat vocals are muted
half way. Also on the 4th repeat where there is a DS al Coda with muted parts of the vocals.
I hope this is clear, I use this with 4 part harmony as well in order to focus on my part.
I'll upload my Angie transcription for clarity, give me a few minutes.
Another Audio editor highly recommended is Audacity. I've used Goldwave for many years.
