How can I "Fine" on the first note of a measure.

When I try to Fine on the first note of a measure the music plays back with with the last two note sounding when I want them to be silent. Andy

True Jojo. I've never seen a Fine on anything but the last beat of a measure. I don't think it's a good idea to put it on the first beat, but I was answering the question. It would definitely make me do a double take if it were somewhere else, but OP wanted it on the first beat of a measure. If I were writing original music, I would definitely split the measure and put a double bar line, without hiding it, after the Fine.

In 2001 I purchased the music book "Suuri Harmonikka Kirja. This book has 88 songs. Going through just a part of the book I found five songs that had the Fine on the first note of a measure. One of the songs was "Soir de Paris" so this is something that is only specific to Finnish music. MuseScore makes it difficult to transcribe or compose a piece of music where the Fine is not at the end of a measure. Thanks Jojo for a fix to this problem. Attached is a waltz I am working on now.

The piece you attached is a nice piece. The method for the repeat is unconventional. I haven't seen a lot of Finnish music, but I have seen some. The Fine I would guess means to end the song the fourth time through on the tied note. I'm guessing Laulu X4 means play 4 times. You can make it repeat 4 times, but MuseScore will not honor the Fine without a D.S. or D.C. You can make it play correctly with just a couple of hidden modifications.

Splitting a measure isn't difficult. Since ending mid-measure is extremely non-standard, it is reasonable to need to take a couple of extra seconds to make it happen. My guess, BTW, is that this in't some sort of special Finnish tradition, probably more some unique quirk of the publisher of that that particular book.

Thank you Marc for the path on MuseScore to split a measure. It worked fine and then I made the line invisible using the inspector feature. For Christmas my son is getting me the Mastering MuseScore book that I plan on reading cover to cover. Hopefully this will help me with arranging, composing and transcribing scores. Thanks again for your help. Andy
