What of the above handbook page is it you don't understand?
What about pressing M is difficult to do?

Make sure to first enter the music in non-multimeasure rest mode; just leave the appropriate number of measure untouched (so skip 6 measures, then enter notes into the 7th, for example).
Then turn on multimeasures (M) and musescore will combine all consecutive empty measures into one multimeasurerest with the number showing how many measures it combined.

One thing to keep in mind, you will NOT see multi-measure rests in a score if EVERY instrument does not have the sames rests. You will normally see it only in parts. The default for parts is for multi-measure rests to be shown.

And if it confuses you or if it's not clear for you: Attache the score you've trouble with in your reply, describe what do you want to see/to expect - and someone in the forum will give you further assistance.

Not working

What is not working?
7 years later it is Ctrl+Shift+M
Also, keep in mind you should never normally have to do this manually. Multimeasure rests are only for parts, not for the full score. So when you enter your notes for the full score, all is as it should be - no multimeasure rests. When you use File / Parts to generate parts, the multimeasure rests are turned on automatically.
The only time you would ever need to create the manually is if for some reason you are entering music for only a single part without the rest of the score. In that case, simple leave the number of empty measures you want, and then when you're done, hit M and the empty measures get combined as they should. So still, just a still keypress.
