Moving Lyrics Down

• Jan 20, 2018 - 15:39

I create a lot of lead sheets in MuseScore: I frequently find that when I add lyrics, some of them will overlap with the lower notes. I can drag them down individually, but I'd love to be able to move an entire line down at once so that all of the lyrics are at exactly the same level (not just eyeballed). I've done a lot of searching through the manual and forums: I know how to select all of the lyrics, and CTRL+mouse will allow me to drag them left/right -- but not up/down. Help? :)

AHA! I knew there had to be a way to do it. This is the first time (in almost 9 years of using MuseScore) that I haven't been able to figure out how to do something. Thank you so much, both of you! :)

If I only want to move one line of lyrics down (or up) I go to Select/More, select "Same Stave" and "Same System", then adjust the vertical height in the Inspector. I'm new to MuseScore (downloaded it at Christmas) and have completed three choral scores since then. It's very powerful software! I bought Marc Sabatella's book "Mastering MuseScore" on my Kindle and it's one of the clearest books on music software I've ever read - I would highly recommend it. I would have bought the paperback version, but the Kindle book was half the price!

Thanks for the kind words! Glad to hear the Kindle edition works for you. I did put a lot of effort into trying to make sure it would still be readable in a smaller format (often an issue with textbooks and music in particular). It's not perfect, but way better than it would have been without that extra work.

Thank you for writing such a good book! I considered buying the paperback (easier to flip through back and forth), but the Kindle version is so user-friendly (the ability to click on any item in the contents and go there, search for all references to a topic, etc.), that I'm quite happy with it. Still tempted to buy the paperback as well. Thanks again
