How do I change the spacing of measures? i have a student who wrote a short composition. It is 8 measures. I would like the composition to be 2 systems.

That works fine for the original question, but what if I have say one or more pages of music and I just want to increase the spacing between ALL notes - i.e. just make it less tight?

I tried everything I could find about it - for example, Layout> Increase Layout Stretch. Sounds great, doesn't seem to do anything, whether you select multiple measures, one measure, whatever. I tried the Style>Measures and the various settings there. Again, they seem to make no change (at least to an existing file).

I suspect this is really easy (in fact, I found it once months ago and had it do it, but I cannot remember how I did it or where to find it. Any help would be appreciated! :)

Edit: Well, now it seems to be working - i.e. the Style>General>Measures>Spacing (1=tight) does seem to be changing things now. It seems to be VERY inconsistent in that sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But now I see how I did it before. Is this the recommended method?

FWIW, increase stretch does work on selected measures, but it works in small increments, so you might need to do it several times before the effect is noticeable. Also, if you have all measures on a system selected, there won't be any apparent effect at all until you increase it enough that MuseScore cannot fit them all on one system any more.

The same is true of the measure spacing setting. If you don't increase it by enough to affect how many measure fit on a line, there will be no apparently effect. This isn't some bizarre quirk of MuseScore, it's just common sense. If there are X measures on a system, the spacing necessarily is what it is. The only way to get things spread wider is to have fewer measures on a system

Yes, I see that this can be kind of tricky, with a lot of interacting options. I kind of suspected that it was actually working even when it seemed not to be, and that things were not as easy as I thought they'd be. So many options, so little time! ;-)

With the Measures dialog, I had good luck changing the Spacing and the minimum note distance numbers. But generally speaking, adding an Enter (a break), thereby making more room, and then making changes is what really affects things a lot. Thanks for the help!
