Staff spacing
Working on a leadsheet. Simple jazz tune - 32 bars. I'm trying to increase the distance between 2 staffs to fit alternate lyrics in. I am flummoxed. New to Musescore a couple of weeks.

Welcome.
It shouldn't be necessary to increase distance, MuseScore increases the distance automatically, if you begin a new lyrics line and it doesn't fit.
But you can change the settings of the lyrics distance via style->general...->page (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/layout-and-formatting#lyrics-margins) or increase the distance of adjacent staffs with spacers: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/breaks-and-spacers#add-spacer (as mentioned).

Thanks. The trick with the spacer was to double click on the tip of the arrow once connected to the staff. Then drag up or down it until It hits the adjacent staff. Then it starts to move. Also, because it is in blue you have to leave it in place. (I know it doesn't show when printing). Directions were a little fuzzy.
As mentioned, though, you normally shouldn't need to mess with spacers just for lyrics, because MsueScore increase space automatically. However, depending on your setting for "lyrics bottom margin" in Style / General / Page, you might find the space allocated not being enough to avoid chord symbols. In which case, you shoudl simply increase that setting.
