Changing instruments within one stave & play back?
I'm writing a brass quartet during which, one of the players (otherwise resting) will be required to play a cowbell. I would like to have one bar of a horn stave be cowbell, and although I can write something that will look sensible on a piece of paper (for certain values of sensible), it still is played back as a horn. I could write a separate cowbell part, but that seems a little daft for one bar out of 160-odd, and much harder for the poor sod playing it. Is there a way to do this, or is it just something to live with, please?

Use an instrument change from the text palette. Change the text to "Cowbell." In the Mixer you will have a new instrument that is the same as the existing instrument. Change the sound to cowbell. When the musician returns to the regular instrument insert another instrument from the Text palette. Change the text to "Horn" (or whatever is appropriate). The mixer should default to the correct sound. Continue entering notes.

Thanks. The mixer stayed with 'horn', and I can't find a cowbell option in the sound menu, but for some reason, woodblock sounds like it, which is near enough, for now. :-)

I wasn't 100% sure you would find Cowbell, but hoped you could find an instrument to your liking. I know Cowbell exists in the Drumset, but changing to drumset will make things much more difficult.
