Note pallette
When working with Musescore I loose the "N" and the ability to select notes or do virtually anything. Even closing the program and starting it up again does not solve the problem! I have to find the "Reset to factory" button which is not easy to do. What am I doing wrong and how do I get around this?

Go to the menu view->toolbars and select "note input" again.
For the record, Revert to Factory Settings is found under the Help menu.
