How can I use the instrument "Keyboard Synthesizer"?

• May 13, 2018 - 11:48

I've seen non-pro users use it as well. To clear up your doubts, the "Keyboard Synthesizer" lines in others' scores (below is a link to an example) use the "Keyboard Synthesizer" instrument itself rather than using "Piano" and then changing the sound to Keyboard Synthesizer in the mixer (and I actually don't see there is a Keyboard Synthesizer sound of Piano lines in the mixer). As far as I'm concerned the instrument should be in the "Electronic Instruments" folder, but it isn't. I'm currently in urgent need of it because it can really add to the entire atmosphere of my piece. Does anybody know WHERE ON EARTH IS "KEYBOARD SYNTHESIZER"? OR HOW CAN I GET IT IF IT'S NOT ORIGINALLY FEATURED IN THE SOFTWARE? THANK YOU!!!

That score apparently got last saved with MuseScore 2.0.2, but it seems to originally been created with MuseScore 1.x, which indeed had a Keyboard Synthesizer. Seems 2.x does not, for whatever reason.

In Mixer 1.3 shows "Saw Wave" as the GM sound used, 2.2.1 shows "Saw Lead" as the GM sound being used.

So in 2.x use the instrument "Saw Synthesizer" and change its long name and part name to "Keyboard synthesizer"

To be clear: "Keyboard Synthesizer" is kind of a generic name for a variety of different instruments that are capable of creating a number of different sounds. There really is no specific instrument by that name, although I gather 1.x probably pretended there was. But as noted, the actual sound being used for this instrument is the saw wave, as you can see in the Mixer. To create your own score using this sound, simply add any of the various synthesizer instruments you like (the names are now a lot more specific than merely "keyboard synthesizer") and make sure its default channel is set to "Saw wave" in the Mixer. The instrument listed as "Saw synthesizer" does this already. If you want an instrument that can change sounds (which indeed msot synthesizers can), choose one of the somewhat more generic instruments, like "Effect synthesizer", then you can assign the different channels to different sounds. Or you can use "Change instrument" commands within your score (the "Instrument" element from the Text palette).
