Triplets at the start of a measure
How can I get a triplet to start working at the start of the measure? I want to fit three quarter notes as a triplet, and a half note in one measure.

Select a note or rest that specifies the full duration of the desired triplet group

Triplets at the start of a measure work the same way as triplets anywhere else - while in note input mode, select the full duration the tuplet (half note in your case), then press Ctrl+3. See also https://masteringmusescore.com/quick-answers/enter-tuplets/
