note subdivisions
hello-
ok-i have a 4/4 measure where i, for ease of entry, enter 2 dotted quarter notes and a regular quarter note. now, for clarity, the 2nd dotted quarter note should be an eighth note tied to a quarter note. is there something i can click on to do this automatically (highlighting the measure and hitting a button) ? if not could there be?

There is an automatic facility to do this sort of thing - select the music you want to process, then Layout / Regroup Rhythms. Best to do this before you've added lyrics or other markings, as they may or not survive the transformation (2.2 is better than 2.1 in this regard).
However, the specific rules it follows are bit more conservative, and they won't actually change the specific rhythm you mention (it's considered acceptable in some contexts). But it will correct a bunch of other issues.
