Using a Midi Controller Keyboard with MuseScore
Hello musicians,
recently i bought a Novation 61SL MkII and i hoped to get it working with MuseScore. I'm not very familiar with Midi, neither Novation's Automap.
MuseScore recognized it as Midi Keyboard and i was able to write notes. But the keyboard has a lot of more buttons, faders and potentiometers, for example transport buttons. How can I use them with MuseScore? When I try to connect some functions with a Midi Signal, only pressing the keys and a few potis are recognized, pressing any button seems to not to arrive in MuseScore.
Has anyone used a Novation Keyboard with MuseScore and managed to get the buttons and faders working? Probably also using Novation's Automap?
Perhaps it would already help if someone has managed to configure the extra buttons of a keyboard from another manufacturer.

Not sure what results you are expecting, but remember, MuseScore is a notation program, so only things that have a direct and obvious analogue in the world of standard music notation would have any chance of being recognized meaningfully. Basically, notes are it for now. Some day I could imagine sustain pedal being added.

Thanks for your reply. What I was wishing for: To press the play Button on my keyboard and MuseScore plays, or to adjust the fader of channel 1 and the volumen of instrument 1 changes, or press user button x and the tone length is 1/8. But I maybe this would be more like controlling a DAW.
Maybe I find a way to do so by assigning controller elements to computer keys.

Adding midi keys to shortcuts should work. Open the shortcuts in Edit->Preferences (MuseScore->Preferences on a Mac). Select the shortcut, click define, press the midi key, then click add, so the computer keyboard still works.

Configuring the Novation Keyboard was a pain. Somehow it worked on some MuseScore functions, but the settings were not easy to find and not intuitive. Also most of the buttons had to be pressed twice to activate the corresponding MuseScore function. It was no fun.
After all I switched from the Novation to a Roland A-800 Pro. Configuring the Roland to work with MuseScore was very easy, compared to the Novation. This is how it worked for me:
First set-up the Roland's control map 19 with the Roland A-PRO Editor Software and name it as you wish, e.g. "MuseScore". This will be shown when you select this mapping on the keyboard. Then configure the keyboard controls you want to use with MuseScore. It seems that MuseScore can only receive MIDI signals from a single MIDI device, so you have to choose the same MIDI port for the control message as for the notes. For my needs:
Play button: Channel message, Channel 1, Control Change, Control Nr. 16, Port 1, Unlatch
Stop button: Channel message, Channel 1, Control Change, Control Nr. 17, Port 1, Unlatch
Rewind button: Channel message, Channel 1, Control Change, Control Nr. 18, Port 1, Unlatch
Record button: Channel message, Channel 1, Control Change, Control Nr. 19, Port 1, Unlatch
Pad 1: Channel message, Channel 1, Control Change, Control Nr. 111, Port 1, Unlatch
Pad 2: Channel message, Channel 1, Control Change, Control Nr. 112, Port 1, Unlatch

All the MIDI Control Nrs. were chosen from ranges described as "undefined" at http://www.personal.kent.edu/~sbirch/Music_Production/MP-II/MIDI/midi_c….
After that you have to choose A-PRO 1 as MIDI input device in MuseScore and can assign the previously configured keyboard controls to a MuseScore function. I assigned the Play, Stop and Rewind buttons self-explaining, the Record button to Note Input, the Pads to note lengths, pause and dot, the Button B1 to Undo and B4 to Tie.

It looks like your MIDI controller's buttons are set to toggle between 0 and 127 (that's why it says "unlatch"). That has nothing to do with MuseScore. If there's a way to set the buttons to only trigger when held down, that would probably fix that problem.
