Close document without closing program

• Jun 29, 2018 - 06:09

Hello friends.

I think we need a simple X button up in the top right corner of the window, or any other similar icon on the bar, so that the user can close any open sheet without closing the program itself, and so that he will not have to search for the word "close" in the "file" menu, each time, nor have to lift both hands from the keyboard to hit the keyboard shortcut equivalent, CTRL+F4.

Having the "X" on the tab for the document - like we do - is the standard method used in most programs, so it should be considered sufficient. But note also, Ctrl+W will also serve this function on most systems. You can also go to Edit / Preferences / Shortcuts to define your own shortcut if you prefer.

While we're here, the lack of an OS-standard menu/dialog listing open documents is a major deficiency. When I open a document from the command line or "Finder" (Mac), or even the internal Open dialog, if the document is already open, I have no way of finding the tab other than gingerly scrolling through all of them, which always causes problems. I often have a couple of dozen documents open.

Other apps have dialogs listing open documents.
