Line "end text" not appearing in the right spot

• Jul 17, 2018 - 03:34

When entering a line, either a Line or a Text Line from the Line Palette, the begin and continue text behave as expected, but the end text always appears to the right of the end of the line. Selecting above or below only changes the vertical position, and then only if you go into the Text Properties subdialogue and change the vertical alignment. (Changing the horizontal alignment does nothing.) I can sort-of make this look right by removing the hook from the end of the line and dragging the endpoint so that the ending text shows up in the right spot. Or, I can just add some staff text separately and omit the end line text altogether. But, I can't believe this is how it's supposed to work.

Images attached. One is to show that I did extend the line to where I want it to go, but if there's a hook on the end, it reveals that the text is glued to the right. The other shows the text properties subdialogue.

It's usually better to attach an actual score than a picture, then we can tell more about what is happening. In this case, the real question is, what do you wan to see happen? I guess you want the text to appear within the line? if so, simply change the text itself (not the line) to right alignment. That is, click the icon with the the three dots just after where you type the text, which brings up the Text Properties dialog. Change to right alignment there.

I thought I had tried that, but I guess I hadn't. That worked.

That said, it's pretty common to want to nest the ending bracket/line/whatever text within the corner created by the end of the line and the hook (assuming you have a hook there). Otherwise, that ending text appears over music that it doesn't apply to, which can be confusing. It would be nice to have a more intuitive way of making this work, like buttons saying "inside" and "outside" or something, indicating where you want the text to live in relation to the end of the line.
