"Wobbling" Notes

• Sep 19, 2018 - 02:11

OS: Windows 7, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (32-bit): 2.3.2, revision: 4592407

Okay, so I have used MuseScore for about 6 months now, and I have never seen a problem like this before. Basically, certain notes (it's more prominent when they are held notes) during the playback when you get to hear your score are not consistent in the sense that they are not one long, held, continuous note. This goes across all of my scores. The notes cut out at consistent rates, but different notes cut out at different consistent rates. For example, on Bb Trumpet, the notes that "wobble" are A, A# B, C, C#, and D while on the Trombone the notes that "wobble" are only E#, F, and F#. I believe this may be a corruption in the SoundFont files. But even when I downloaded a new, untouched SoundFont file, it didn't seem to change. This also leads me to believe this is a system error, and that when you open this score you might not be able to hear the problem. To recreate this problem, you can simply press "N" on the keyboard, select any note value (although, before eight notes you don't exactly have enough time to hear the "wobble"), select any one of the "wobbling" notes, place that note into the score and lastly hit the "Spacebar" key to start the playback. Again, it should be noted that this may only be a system bug and not a score / software bug, so you may not be able to hear the imperfections in the following score. If anyone can help identify, give any information about this problem, and or help resolve this problem I will be very grateful. Thank you!

I don't hear anything unusual. Are you maybe referring to vibrato - the normal / natural variation in sound that most human players produce naturally? If not, maybe you could record the audio you are hearing, upload it somewhere, and post a link here.

It should be the default SoundFont, but I was messing around with another SoundFont because I was trying to add in another instrument since I didn't like the sound of the cowbell in the default SoundFont. But when I did this, it didn't modify the default SoundFont so it shouldn't have affected anything.

When you add another soundfont, it replaces the default for all instruments normally. So most likely the problem is with the soundfont you added. I suggest removing it (View / Synthesizer), or, better yet, just use "Help / Revert to factory Settings" in case some other customization you made is getting in your way.
