My project was reverted to a previous version. I have lost a good deal of work and I want to know how I can recover my lost work.

This doesn't make sense. Attach your file and explain better what happened.
Search for a file of the same name with a period (.) in front and a comma after.
It will be the last backup version.
Indeed, MuseScore never reverts to previous versions on its own - there is quite simply nothing anywhere in the source to do that. More likely, you simply saved your recent work to a different folder and/or under a different name, and then inadvertently opened the older version. All you need to do is remember where you saved the current work. It might help to so a Save As of some score, which will default to showing thre folder you last used.
