Altering slur is producing duplicate.

• Sep 30, 2018 - 20:03

I have a score. It includes slurs.
I have generated parts.

I am going into the parts and adjusting the slurs where necessary because of element conflicts.

I double click the slur, the handles appear. I adjust the slur using the handles.

I click a distance away to come out of editing mode.

The result is now 2 slurs, one in the original position and one in the new position.

This is also happening with the Prallprall line (why 2 "pralls", as the tool tip explains?).

My best guess is that there were already two slurs there, right on top of each so it wasn't obvious. So editing one simply uncovered the other that was already there. These duplicate slurs can happen if, for instance, you copy and paste a passage with a slur onto a passage that already had a slur there. There were also bugs in older versions that could cause duplicate slurs on their own, although I believe this has now been fixed so at least you wouldn't be getting new duplicate slurs as a result of that bug.

Yes, this case appears to be exactly as I described: as a result of the copy & paste to a measure that already has a slur, you now have two slurs directly on top of each other. So again, it's not editing the slur that duplicated, it's the copy and paste that does it. More specifically, the copy and paste left the original slur in place and then copied a new one over it. Better to delete the contents of the original measure first before copying if there are lines (slurs, hairpins, etc) involved.

This behavior - keeping the original lines in place when copying and pasting - was requested with respect to hairpins, where I guess it can sometimes make sense to keep the originals. But it seldom will with slurs, and I do think we should consider changing it, because it does lead to people inadvertently creating duplicates like this.
