Playback issue with grace notes
This is a playback issue.
As the example shows, when I properly use the acciaccatura, it is either played too fast or glossed over. If I use the appoggiatura, the first set of grace notes are properly heard, but the rhythm is put off. Although the acciaccatura is desired, and a violinist would certainly know how to perform, for playback my choice would be the appoggiatura.
Unless I've overlooked something? Could I have both?

Acciaccatura and appoggiatura are two entirely different concepts that only happen to look similar (much like slurs and ties). You definitely are dealing with an appoggiatura here - there are very clearly in the acciaccatura family. It's just a matter of tweaking the playback. You can have a go at it using the Piano Roll editor, but personally, if it were me and I decided it was important to hear the playback, I'd add an invisible staff and write it out there.

I quite agree. The two have different origins. The acciaccatura is a mis-usage of the 19th century appoggiatura, which is what I wanted here. Unfortunately, the accent is put off on the playback. However, what matters here is the score, not playback, which is intended ultimately for a violinist. So, I'll likely not fuss, though it is a good idea to learn a new task like this piano roll editor you've mentioned. Worth a shot.
Thanks for your help...again.

Now someone else has recommended the piano roll editor to me for another issue. Problem is, I cannot find the blasted thing. At wit's end...and it's likely right in front of me!
Can you direct me?

Right click the staff you want to edit and select Piano Roll Editor.

Thank you. Naturally it was in the only place I did not look, but I was hoping for some literature on it in the handbook. Could not find it and a search was useless.

The websites search facility is quite useless. Google works much better.
You are correct about there being no documentation on the piano roll editor (at least as of a year ago when I last downloaded a PDF handbook).

Okay. Now I don't feel as stupid as I did moments ago. Search led me to info on "piano" and "editor" and "rolls".
I found the page in my Bing Search and saved it.
Thanks.
