Change tempo
When I started this piece, in the wizard at the beginning, I entered 120 bpm as the tempo. But that is too fast, and I want it to be 100 instead.
How do I change the underlying tempo, without adding a 'tempo marking' because I want it to be 100, like that is what I had entered in the startup wizard?

Without any tempo marking MuseScore defaults to 120 BPM, so you need a tempo marking and set it to 100.
If you entered 120 at the beginning, then there is already a tempo marking - it was placed there by the wizard. All you need to do is double-click it to edit it. maybe you made it invisible, then turned off the display of invisible elements? Turn it back on again, at least temporarily, with View / Show Invisible. But really, you should just leave it visible - invisible markings are all well and good for MuseScore's own playback but it won't help the people reading your score and wanting to play it.

If you don't check the tempo box in the new score wizard, there will be no tempo mark. MuseScore will assume a tempo of 120.
