Midi files
I opened a midi file which has two vocal staffs, and two piano staffs. When I opened it in MuseScore it split everything, and instead of four staffs I now have eight. Are there settings somewhere that I need to select to prevent this from happening? Thanks MuseScore Screen Print.docx

I meant to mention that xml file import in the correct format, just not as clean.

So you have the choice betwteen importing MIDI and MusicXML and picked MIDI? Then the flaw is right there.
MIDI import IMHO is some sort of (2nd to) last resort (last being PDF)

Thanks. That makes sense. The notation software I use doesn't import xml which is why I'm trying MuseScore to see which will be easier for me to 'fix' after the pdf is scanned. Thanks for your help.
If I can... one more quick question. When I import XML, there are over 50 instances of 'Instrument Change' and it's only a four page score. Do you know what this is, and how I can avoid it?

if this is encoded that way in the XML you can't. Maybe you can attach it here too, so out XML guru can have a look at it

Thanks. I am ok with editing xml files (although it's been over 10 years since I've retired and had to). So if you xml guru can pinpoint where and what editing is needed, that would be great. I have a pile of music that I'm playing in various churches for Christmas - I'm hoping to simplify it a little so I don't have to enter everything manually. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I am not the XML expert. And removing <instrument id=".*"/> doesn't make it perfect.
There are better pdf scanner out there.
