The message from support.

Currently, MuseScore says "Recorder" on the add instrument category. Could you please separate out Soprano Recorder, Alto Recorder, Tenor Recorder, and Bass Recorder. This way, when we play back a score, we get the correct voice of the instrument. I am trying to create a score for Tenor Recorder with a Violin section, and during audio playback I am listening to a Soprano recorder. Instead, I need to hear the voice below the violins, which is the Tenor Recorder. I do NOT want to hear a voice that is above the violins. Currently, it appears there is only a voice in Musescore for Soprano recorder.

In our SoundFont (and and GM soundfont) there's only one sound for Recorder, and that is used for all Recorders we support in MuseScore.
And we do support all the oones mentioned here, they do differe not only in their names, but also in there ranges and clefs. Just not in their sound though...

Plain Recorder indeed is the same as Soprano Recorder, but we have a whole set of other recorders too; Garklein, Sopranino, Decant, Treble, Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass, Contrabass and Greatbass

Correct me if I am wrong but the recorder instruments in MS3 and MS4 are all based on a single sample and are stretched to fit the required pitch. Also, the delayed vibrato is identical in all recorder voices and is in any case artificial. Recorders are simple instruments but their sound profiles are not. The same note on different recorder voices (EG soprano and alto) are quite different in character as are the sound characteristics of two notes on the same instrument. To make matters even more complicated, different makers produce recorders which are quite different in character in the same voice.

Yes, the range of recorder voices is covered from top to bottom but the internal sound is the same. We need some really detailed sampling especially for alto/treble. //Don
