Symbols including dynamic markings and articulations added from the "Symbols" section of the Master Palette are placed right next to the notehead instead of placed in the proper position (below the staff for dynamics, above the notehead for staccatos, above the staff for accents). This doesn't happen when the symbol is placed from the Palette or from the "dynamics" and "articulations" sections of the Master Palette.

In the attached file, the symbols in the first bar were added from the Palette, while the second bar's symbols were added from the "Symbols" section of the Master Palette, with no other editing.

This is correct. The "Symbols" are just that - symbols with no special meaning. If you want them to behave according to their normal meaning, then add from from the normal palette. The main point of the Symbols palette is to add symbols that MuseScore does not otherwise support, or to be able to add symbols it does support but not have the normal processing.
