Mac Split View Problem

• Jan 17, 2019 - 20:49

Sometimes when I use MuseScore, I use the Mac Splitview feature with the PDF file of a score beside MuseScore so I can conveniently manually copy the score into MuseScore.

However, There has been a problem ever since MuseScore 2.3, where whenever I add a particular type note to the score, usually a dotted note, it will cause the Splitview to close and separating the two into separate windows. I find this very inconvenient and was the main reason why I chose to continue using MuseScore 2.0 over 2.3.

Now, having recently updated to 3.0, the problem still persists. I hope MuseScore can quickly solve this problem/bug as I would really like to be able to enjoy the new features of the new version of MuseScore.

What is the keyboard command to close split screen on your mac? Is this what you're pressing in MuseScore when it's terminated?

I don't use a Mac, so I don't know a lot of things about them. I am aware that some of the Mac Specific shortcuts in MuseScore are designed to avoid conflicts with Mac system shortcuts. I was curious if this is a case where one or the other should be changed.

Can you describe more preicsely exactly what you are clicking or pressing while in MsueScore that causes a problem for this Splitview feature?

Offhand, it sure seems to me that if Splitview is affected by something you do while in the MsueScore, that's a bug in Splitview (or in macOS itself), not in MsueScore - that is, it should not be possible for MuseScore to do anything that will affect any other program. The possibility that you are simply hitting a keyboard shortcut used by Splitview does indeed seem plausible. Which is again why we'd want to know precise steps to reproduce the problem.

The problem arises whenever I add a dotted note into my score while using Splitview, and it didn't matter how I put the note into the score, like using my mouse (clicking on the note type then clicking onto the score) or using the keyboard shortcut (N -> [1-9] -> . -> [A-G]).

The reason I believe that this is a problem with Musescore, is that because it was non-existent on the older versions (I believe before 2.3). Hence, I have continued to use Musescore 2.0 and ignored the updated versions.

Well, like I said, if there is no bug in Splitview, then there is simply no possible way anything MsueScore does could possibly interfere with its correct operation. If Splitview is being adversely affected by something a program does, that's a bug in Splitview and should be reported as such or it will never be fixed. There is nothing MsueScore can do about that.
