'Arco' text doesn't work directly
Hi, gang!!!
I use MuseScore 3.0.1, portable version, into UbuntuStudio 18.04.1 LTS.
When I use "pizz" staff text symbol, the MuseScore synthesizer does the strings instrument change from normal to pizzicato, as I expect it sounds.
But... When I use "arco" staff text symbol... I have to right click into the staff text symbol and manually perform the instrument change.
Wasn't it expected this change was made automatically???
Maybe... Some code missing thing???
Blessings and Greetings from Chile!!!

Strange, it was certainly the intention for it to work that way, need to look into it, please file in the issue tracker for it to not get lost.
Does mute/open for trumpet have the same issue?

I will check it (I don't use trumpet, too often).

Too rare!!!
I made a test (it is included), from the scratch, with MuseScore 3.0.1 and now... All it is working so fine!!!
The score where I had the problem was an old MIDI Standard file which I'm "translating".
Very rare!!!

So no issue after all?
This indeed only works with scores cretead in 3.0 from scratch, as only those have an 'arco' channel, 2.x ones have a 'normal' channel, but that had different meaning for e.g. classic Bass (normal meaning arco) and Jazz Bass (normal meaning pizzicato)
I believe that would be worth mentioning in the handbook
