v2 - Creating album with Piano left page and Bb right page, is it possible?

• Jan 20, 2019 - 11:26

I'm in the process of writing a song book for young musicians. It only has a melody line, chords and lyrics. I'd like to be able to set it up so that it has Piano (Concert C) on the left page and Bb on the right page. Is there an easy way of doing this?

I have worked out a convoluted way of doing this by creating two separate albums (one for C and the other Bb) and then using a PDF printer that will print a page at a time before then combining them all.

Have 2 instruments, one of them transposing a major second, add the notes twice, in turns (first couple measures normal, 2nd turn transposed), enable "Hide empty staves" (and disable "Don't hide empty staves on 1st system)", set page breaks.
Same with 3rd and 4th, etc.

Thanks for your help with this.
I must say some of what you've said makes no sense, however that being said. I'm starting with a piano only book and after that I'll then make the same book but Piano and Bb and then a Piano and Eb.
Since your answer on this I've continued with my task of doing the Piano only and have learnt some of the functions you spoke about that I wasn't yet familiar with. So I'm hoping by the time I finish the Piano only I'll have worked out most if not all of what you're talking about and be good to go for the other two.

Thanks for your answer by the way, whilst some/most of what you've said made little sense when I started it did give me confidence to continue my project with this software because someone could confirm for me that what I wanted to do could be done with this software. Cheers.

I'll update here as I go. I'm thinking at my current rate I may be ready come April do do the Piano and Bb book.

I would like to thank all who commented. They have each helped with my situation in their own way. I completed the Piano only version of this towards the end of April. I've had a few weeks off (mostly because others are proof reading the Piano version) and have now decided to work out how to get the Piano and Bb version done.

I'll now advise how I achieved this in case it helps anyone else who has the same needs.

Firstly I created a concert pitch version of each song as a separate file.
I then put them all in an album which gave me one big file with all the songs.
I then selected everything and copied it.
I added in the Bb instrument.
I went to the first measure of the first song and pasted.
This copied everything in whilst transposing automatically for Bb instrument.
I then hid the piano instrument leaving me with only the Bb instrument in the album.
I saved this as a second file.
I'm now able to export to PDF a separate Piano and Bb version of the album.

I then used PDFSAM (this was a super great tip) which has the option to merge multiple files by taking alternating pages from each file to build the new one. So with my two files of Piano and Bb I end up with Piano on the left and Bb on the right just as I wanted.

Jojo-Schmitz - Whilst I've learned a lot about MuseScore whilst doing this task (I had 75 songs to do by the way) I still don't fully understand your first comment, or maybe it doesn't work if you can fit more than 1 song to a page, which on same pages I've comfortably fit 3?

If you have PDF's already then using a PDF editor would more likely be easier. There are several free ones on the internet, though I haven't tried any.
