musescore 3 - Vertical alignment of lyrics seems broken..

• Jan 23, 2019 - 03:47

Hi, using musescore 3 and noticed this unusual problem. While adding lyrics to a hymn I needed to adjust the vertical position of the lyrics. In musescore 2 all you had to do was select the lyrics in question and adjust their vertical alignment in the inspector.
However, in musescore 3 this mechanic seems either broken or missing.. A horizontal adjustment of the lyrics causes all the notes on the entire system to either expand or retract (wider or thinner) rather than simply move to the right or left, and the vertical alignment does absolutely nothing whatsoever. No value that I set, from 0 to 1,000 does anything on the page. The lyrics are immovable in terms of vertical alignment.

I need to lower one line of lyrics just a little bit, but can't seem to do it in musescore 3. Is this a bug or am I unclear on something?

Seems to be doing the job, apart from the very fact it's not: from a messy uneven lyrics line I got a still very much messy, still vertically uneven clumps of lyrics, with syllables overlapping. Absolutely unacceptable, as there seems to not be that much of control over it; compatibility with files created with older versions is compromised (more or less none, taking into account it pretty much cannot be done without major previous editorial work losses or wasting more time on recalibrating what was already done), the files end up butchered, unless one happens to have a backup pdf copy; and it clearly isn't a swift change from older version to newer, as it definitely should be. Miserable.

I don't know what OS you are using and you haven't attached the score for anyone to check it for bugs but here's my experience:

MS 3.0OS
Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS, Arch.: x86_64
MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.0.0., revision: 96c1f7b

I right-click on a lyric and choose Select >More >Same Subtype
Then I look at Inspector and Untick Automatic Placement
Then I adjust the Y offset and the lyrics all moe as inteneded.

If this does not work for you then please describe what happens at each stage and if there is a bug then someone can fix it.
