Pedal markings with * to release
The Pedal marking for Ped__________* should not have the line, as it's understood. I could find no example in the literature where there is a line between the "Ped" marking and the "*" (release) mark. A professional performer would not expect to see it, and a composer would never use it. Is there a way to get rid of the line? If not, I suggest providing the option, or doing away with it altogether, since it's not used.

I think it is, but I don't see any option to make the pedal line invisible.
The Ped. * marking never uses a line, and because the release symbol is usually close to the Ped. marking, there's no reason to have any line there at all, even an invisible one. Neither the composer nor the performer need a line when using that symbol, so I suggest taking it out altogether.

It is invisible in MuseScore and on the PDFs, but not on musescore.com.

I don't know about Musescore.com, but the lines are visible in the MuseScore software and in the PDF, whether I export the whole score or the part. Can't you reproduce it? Is there a setting I'm missing? I only see a way to make the line solid or dotted, and to adjust the thickness. I don't see any setting that makes it invisible. Honestly, it's not needed in the first place.

Did you untick the 'Line visible' in inspector?
It should most probably be invisble by default, like it was in MuseScore 2.x
Now reported in #283405: "Ped. *" has the line set to visible in 3.0 in advanced workspace , was invisible in 2.x

What and where is inspector? I feel like I have to keep looking for a hidden ball. Please give me the specifics. I found where I can change the nature of the line, but there's no option to make it invisible. And by the way, the name "Inspector" makes no sense in the context of changing settings.

It is open by default, on the right hand side of the screen, see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/inspector
It is used to change almost all element's properties.

Ok, that's progress. I found the Inspector and figured out how to go to each occurrence of the line in question and make it invisible. Now, since there is no circumstance under which I would need to see a line on the Ped marking in the first place, is there a way to set the default on this line to always be invisible? If so, please give me the specifics.

You cannot set a default line style of invisible, but you can make every existing pedal line invisible at once. Right click a pedal line and choose Select all similar items. You can then remove the check from Visible on all lines at once. If "Visible" is blue and the box is unchecked, some lines are visible and some are not. You can click the check box two times (not double click) to check then uncheck the box if you need to.

Default style of invisible might be possible, using a custom workspace and palette
And as I just found out: the Pedal line from the master palette works as it should!

I actually found examples of a line being used for the Ped. * marking. It was used to continue the Ped instruction to the next line. On the other hand, I found examples in the same book (Beethoven sonatas) where the Ped instruction continued for one or two lines without the line. Maybe it's a typesetter choice thing. Either way, i'm happy to know how to turn it off. Thanks!
